Summer Cabin Rentals

We are pleased to offer select, private rentals of our historic cabins. Our cabins provide space to rest and relax or dig into research and writing projects without distraction. To unwind, take a swim or canoe ride in the lagoon or hike the Crow’s Nest Trail. Staying in a cabin is an invitation to experience our campus in its most personal form.

All cabins are equipped with a bathroom (toilet and sink) and a mini-fridge. Three meals a day, prepared and served in the inn by our gifted culinary staff, will be included with your cabin rental. You are welcome to use our beloved shower house, The Wet, during your stay.

For full Ox-Bow immersion, enroll in an Art on the Meadow Workshop or book a Private Class or Studio Rental!

SCANLON
The Scanlon was built in the 1920s by John and Zaidee Scanlon, a painter and opera singer, respectively. A prime example of the classic Michigan cottage style of architecture, the Scanlon is bigger than many of our cabins and features a vaulted ceiling, fireplace and day bed in its generous living room. The Scanlon is a great spot for a family or small group, with a downstairs full-sized master bedroom as well as an upstairs loft with two twin beds.

TALLMADGE
Designed and built in 1923 by prominent Chicago architect and Ox-Bow patron Thomas Eddy Tallmadge, this cabin is a gorgeous example of Prairie style. The design touches throughout, from the fireplace to the window seats to the hand-painted living room ceiling, are a history or architecture buff’s dream come to life. The Tallmadge features two bedrooms, one with a full bed and one with two twins.

The Mason
The Mason is one of Ox-Bow's larger cabins, with a gable roof and vaulted ceilings over a large, open living room and two private bedrooms. Tucked into the edge of the Tallmadge woods, the Mason was built by landscape painters Alice Kolb Mason and Michael Mason in 1925. They truly considered the Mason a home and entertained family there every summer until the 1960s when they gave the cabin to Ox-Bow. Now you can enjoy the fireplace, built-in features and forest views. With one full and two twin beds, the Mason comfortably sleeps four people.

WEST
Although it’s called the West, this just may be the North Star in the constellation of Ox-Bow’s cabins. The West owes its unique modularity and perfect lagoon-side location to Charles Cameron West, a Wisconsinite submarine builder. He shipped construction cabins across the lake to Ox-Bow at the close of WWII and combined them to form The West. Alongside a covered deck and a kitchenette with sink, mini-fridge, and electric kettle, The West features one full bedroom and a living room with a futon and writer’s desk with a spectacular view.

HOYT
The charming Hoyt, built in the 1930s, features a cozy screened-in porch, two bedrooms each with a full bed, and a living room. Affectionately referred to as the “Hoyt-y Toity” by some, the cabin’s drywall and comfy touches feel a bit less rustic than our other offerings. The Hoyt’s porch looks out onto the meadow and other cabins.

Life on Campus

The hum of campus life is steady and rhythmic. Our gorgeous natural environment provides an inspiring backdrop for work and play. Bask in our rich history and create with an eye to the future.

Campus life is simple; as a friend of Ox-Bow, you already know that this is not a 5-star resort – and thank goodness for that! There is no air conditioning or heat in our cabins. Staff will be available to answer questions during regularly set daytime office hours, but will not be accessible 24-hours a day.

MEALS

Our kitchen’s philosophy is one of expansiveness and locality; of familiarity and adventure. We offer global comfort food prepared in our inn kitchen three times a day, and a well-stocked snack and toast bar between meals.
